A Christmas Prayer
Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate your birth may we begin to see the world in the light of the understanding you give us. As you chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the poor to receive the greatest news the world had ever known, so may we worship you in meekness of heart. May we also remember our brothers and sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of giving?
Lord Jesus, Please forgive me for being as grumpy as I trudge through the never-ending tasks set before me this holiday season... My to-do list seems to keep growing with shopping, church services, and family gatherings--- and I'm running short of time! Restore the joy of Christmas to my heart . . and help me to relax each day and make time for You--my one true Source of Joy.
I think about my family, my relatives, the neighbors, people with whom we will spend this day. Dear Jesus, as I look at their faces and remember their stories, there are feelings of gratitude and some fear and anxiety. Thank you for these loved ones and please forgive me for the ways I have been less than accepting and loving. Please heal the wounds, division and conflicts that stand between us and help me to remember how dearly you love them. I only want to remember that you have come to save each and every one of us, and that includes even the ones I do not like or the ones I disagree with. So dear Lord, help me to have your compassion and understanding, and to reach out beyond my comfort level, in boldness and in love, as You have do.
Father, in celebrating Christmas, we are celebrating Jesus, the expression of your lavish, amazing, divine love. While singing carols, we worship Him, love incarnate. May the love of Christ flow like rivers from the depth of our being? May we henceforth be known as the lovers of God and of each other? As we choose to walk with you, let love be the token of our lives. Lord Jesus, Wise men traveled for miles to bring you the first Christmas presents. So may we, too, remember with thankful hearts the love that comes with each present we open? We also thank you for the amazing love you have for each of us, and we thank you for the many gifts that you give us.
God grant you the light of Christmas, which is faith;
the warmth of Christmas, which is purity;
the righteousness of Christmas, which is justice;
the belief in Christmas, which is truth;
the all of Christmas, which is Christ?
Lord, may we be like the Wise Men who were guided to you by a star. Give us the wisdom to seek you, light to guide us to you, courage to search until we find you, graciousness to worship you and generosity to lay our gifts before you, who are our King and our God for ever and ever. The day of joy returns, Father in Heaven, and crowns another year with peace and good will.
Dear Lord, help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the doors of hate and open the doors of love all over the world? Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil, by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our bed with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus?
A Root shall come forth from the stock of Jesse, and a Flower shall rise out of his root! The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him. The spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and of godliness. The people that walked in darkness shall see a great light, for a Child is born to us and a Son is given to us. To Him all power shall be given. His Name shall be: Wonderful One, Strong God, Eternal One, Prince of Peace. He shall sit on the throne of David, and He will found a new Covenant which will last for ever and ever.
Amen
